Multidisciplinary and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

Reimagining Higher Education in Alignment with NEP 2020

LORD RANA International University is established on the foundational principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which envisions a transformative higher education system that is multidisciplinary, holistic, flexible, skill-oriented, and research-driven. The University recognizes that the challenges and opportunities of the twenty-first century require graduates who possess diverse knowledge, interdisciplinary competencies, critical thinking abilities, creativity, and lifelong learning skills.

Moving beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries, the University adopts a multidisciplinary academic framework and a Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) that empowers students to design personalized learning pathways based on their interests, aspirations, career goals, and emerging industry requirements.

The University's academic architecture is designed to nurture well-rounded individuals who are capable of integrating knowledge across disciplines, solving complex real-world problems, and contributing meaningfully to society, industry, and nation-building.

NEP 2020 and the Multidisciplinary Vision

The National Education Policy 2020 strongly advocates the transformation of higher education institutions into large multidisciplinary universities that promote holistic and flexible learning. In accordance with this vision, LORD RANA International University has been designed as a multidisciplinary institution where students are encouraged to explore diverse fields of study beyond their primary discipline.

The University believes that future leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and professionals must possess a broad understanding of multiple domains alongside deep expertise in their chosen field. This multidisciplinary approach enables learners to develop intellectual flexibility, creativity, adaptability, communication skills, ethical reasoning, and problem-solving capabilities.

By integrating sciences, technology, health sciences, business studies, humanities, arts, heritage studies, and skill development within a unified academic ecosystem, the University seeks to provide a transformative educational experience aligned with global best practices and the aspirations of NEP 2020.

Academic Flexibility and Student Choice

  Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)

The University shall implement a robust Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) that provides students with flexibility in selecting courses across disciplines while maintaining academic rigor and quality.

The CBCS framework enables students to:

● Choose courses based on their interests and career aspirations.

● Learn across multiple disciplines and domains. ● Earn credits through academic, research, skill-based, and experiential learning activities.

● Customize their academic journey through elective and interdisciplinary courses. ● Develop a balanced combination of professional knowledge, skills, and competencies. ● Enhance employability, entrepreneurship, and lifelong learning capabilities.

The system ensures flexibility without compromising academic excellence and encourages learners to become active participants in their educational journey.

Academic Flexibility and Student Choice

In alignment with NEP 2020, the University shall provide multiple opportunities for academic exploration and flexibility through:

● Major and Minor Degree Options ● Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Courses ● Open Elective Courses ● Skill Enhancement Courses ● Ability Enhancement Courses ● Value-Added Courses ● Research and Innovation Projects ● Internship and Apprenticeship Opportunities

● Community Engagement Activities ● Industry-Based Learning Experiences

Students pursuing a major in one discipline may choose minors or elective courses from other Schools and Institutes, thereby creating unique combinations of knowledge and skills.

For example:

● Computer Science students may pursue Entrepreneurship or Psychology as a minor. ● Business students may study Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Public Policy. ● Health Science students may explore Nutrition, Management, or Community Development. ● Humanities students may engage with Digital Technologies, Innovation Studies, or Entrepreneurship.

This flexibility promotes holistic development and enhances career opportunities across sectors.

Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit Framework

In accordance with NEP 2020, the University shall adopt a Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit framework that recognizes diverse learning journeys and provides learners with flexibility and mobility.

The framework shall include:

● Certificate after successful completion of one year.

● Diploma after successful completion of two years.

● Bachelor's Degree after successful completion of three years.

● Bachelor's Degree with Research after successful completion of four years.

This structure ensures that students receive appropriate academic recognition for their learning achievements while maintaining opportunities for continued education and professional advancement.

Through the ABC mechanism, students shall be able to:

● Accumulate academic credits digitally.

● Transfer credits across approved institutions.

● Re-enter academic programs after a break in studies.

● Pursue lifelong learning opportunities.

● Benefit from greater academic mobility and flexibility.

The University shall ensure seamless implementation of credit transfer and credit accumulation mechanisms in accordance with national guidelines.

Experiential and Holistic Learning

The multidisciplinary framework shall be supported by experiential and outcome-based learning approaches that connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications.

Students shall engage in:

● Research Projects ● Innovation Challenges

● Industry Internships ● Field Visits and Community Engagement

● Startup Development Activities ● Design Thinking Projects

● Skill Development Workshops ● Multidisciplinary Capstone Projects

● Social Impact Initiatives

Such experiences will help learners develop practical competencies, leadership qualities, and problem-solving capabilities necessary for success in a rapidly changing world.
